World Halal doesn't just develop and implement standards. We have built a multi-level system of independent oversight that guarantees the integrity of our championships, the objectivity of judging, and unconditional compliance with halal norms.
None of our staff verify their own work. Every level of control is an external or independent body.
Document review before every event (applications, certificates, regulations)
Monitoring compliance with timing and procedures during competitions
Post-event review: a report on violations and recommendations
Reports to: The Head of the Verification Department (independent from the organizing team)
Invited specialists who are not World Halal employees
On-site verification of halal compliance (ingredients, butchering, cleanliness)
Veto power: any violation → halting the round or disqualifying the participant
Expert accreditation:
Certification under the SMIIC 3 standard
Annual qualification renewal
Rotation of experts between events (to eliminate conflicts of interest)
World Halal engages independent accredited bodies for random and scheduled inspections:
| Body | Role |
|---|---|
| National halal centers (JAKIM, ESMA, etc.) | Auditing our verification system for compliance with SMIIC |
| Independent audit firms | Financial transparency (sponsorship funds, registration fees) |
| Ethics Council (established under World Halal) | Reviewing participant appeals and disputes with the jury |
No decision is made unilaterally by a World Halal employee. Every disputed case undergoes external inspection.
| Object of Control | Who Verifies | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Halal ingredients at competitions | Sharia expert | Every round |
| Compliance with SMIIC standards | National halal centers | Annually |
| Objectivity of judging (anonymity of samples, absence of collusion) | Quality department + external ombudsman | Every final |
| Financial flows (sponsors, fees) | Independent auditor (upon request) | Once per season |
| Participant appeals | Ethics Council (external) | As submitted |
If you are:
a sharia expert certified by SMIIC or a national halal body
a food production technologist specializing in halal
an experienced judge of culinary competitions (international experience preferred)
you may apply to join World Halal's pool of independent controllers.
